Generally speaking, a HDD does not have to have a driver to be seen by the disk management. once it has been initialized then it will look for the driver. You could try it on the XP but may still have to follow the same procedure. Did you also try all the procedures that are listed above?
It's not the computers that keep having problems, it's the users!!
